Subject: Help installing IE 5.5OS: Win95CPU/Ram: ??? |
Comment: Followup to earlier post from today "Accidently removed iexplorer.exe" http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/135266.html --------------- I deleted IE on the systhem with IEradicator. Now I'm trying to install IE5.5 on Win95. I downloaded ie55sp2.exe (about 84Mb) and when I doubleclick to install some DOS prompt window (if I see this correctly) pops up with loads of error messages - for example: checkdir error: cannot create IE 5.5 SP2 Full unable to process IE 5.5 SP2 Full/IE5COMP.EXE The error messages are the same with always a different file name at the end. Anybody knows what's going on here? Thanks for any help.

Reply: (edit)I'm not entirely sure this is your problem, but I just went through the process of Upgrading to IE5.5 SP2 from IE5.01, which was the native IE version when I installed the OS (Win98SE) into a new HDD. It could be the installer for 5.5 requires that IE5.0 be present in the first place. Just guess work on my part. Ray

Reply: (edit)I have not ever used IE Eradicator but doesn't it completely remove IE from whatever version of Win you are using? I believe that IE 5.0 is integrated into Windows and if you delete it that way there is nothing left to upgrade. To delete IE and upgrade I believe you use the Add/Remove panel and take it back to the basic IE it came with and then upgrade. I have reloaded 5.5 a couple of times and each time I remove IE back to what ever it came with be it 4.0 4.01, etc and then reinsall 5.5. Just a thought.

Reply: (edit)Another thought; I would reload Windows and then upgrade to IE 5.5 or 6.0, whatever you want.
