A friend was given a Dell L400c computer without a harddrive. She purchased a WD 160 GB and we installed it on Christmas along with Windows 98 SE that originally came with the computer. I added the modem driver before I left. I sent her Netzero's installation CD and she tried to install it, but couldn't because of Netzeros 256 color minimum for the video card. I realized we forgot to update the video card driver and I sent her instructions, from the Dell site, to install the drivers from the ResourceCD that came with the unit. It does not seem to be installing and after further reading it seems we were suppose to install the ResourceCD before any other drivers (Intel 810 chipset Driver to be exact). At this point, do we need to reformat the harddrive and reinstall Windows? If so, is there programming on the Western Digital CD that would walk her thru this reformatting?

Unless you just like reformatting just find a intel 810 driver that is compatible with windows 98 and install it on there.

I couldn't find a XP driver for a HP once and ended up finding out it had the same motherboard in a emachine. I went to emachine driver support and downloaded it installing it on the HP.

All you have to make sure is it's the right OS and chipset.

ASUS A7V8X
Athlon XP 2700+ @ 2.17ghz
1GB DDR 2700
nVidia 128mb FX 5200
WD 80gb SE
NEC ND-3500AG DVD R/RW

How is the drive set up now? That's a pretty big drive for that computer. I assume you had to either add an ATA card to connect it to or you installed a drive overlay.

Also 98 doesn't work right on partitions larger than about 120 gig. So it would be a good idea to make the primary partition no larger than that. Then use the remaining space as an extended partition. Then you can create a logical drive in the extended partition.
