HELP!
Now everytime I start up my computer it goes straight into MacAfee bootscan or something. Only problem is that whenever it reaches pass cycle 8 or something it'll just stop there and wont continue or move onto windows 98.I've tried checking out the MacAfee manual or something but it has absolutely no article about problems for this like it'll never happen. HELP!! please

When in safemode, edit autoexec.bat. REM out 2 lines. The first one is

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\NETWOR~1\VIRUSS~1\40~1.XX\bootscan.exe C:\

The second one is

@IF ERRORLEVEL 1 PAUSE

The second is immediately after the first. This will bypass the bootscan and allow McAfee to run in windows.

Hi, I had the same problem with MCAffee and I removed the lines from autoexec.bat and problem was solved. Any clues to what causes this problem. Also, is MCaffee any good or do you recommend better software?

Since there are those who badmouth McAfee because doing so apparently makes them feel good, you should read unbiased reviews for your answer. The PC magazines generally report that Norton and McAfee are the most dependable virus detectors and cleaners, and you should keep in mind that it is for virus detetction and removal that you use an anti-virus program. Norton tendsd to get a slightly higher mark for interface, altho I've used both and prefer McAfee's. I have McAfee on three computers (legally, by the way) and it has NEVER given me any problem in 4 years.

I had the same problem. I moved my swap file to the c:\ dir. (But this is not what caused the fault!) I had the min setting set to 300 meg. when I changed the setting to 500 meg at a later date, bootscan got hung up. After trial and error (and pulling my hair out) I found that if I set the min setting < 312 meg bootscan would scan it and the computer would boot. I then found if I had any file of this size in the default dir boot scan locked up as well. See if you have a file in your C:\ dir of this size and move it someplace else. It worked for me.
