Comment:

I formatted my harddisc and now I cannot get access to my cd-rom drive. I can boot the system with my win95-undo-disc, but
everytime i type "E:" (my harddisc is partitioned) to setup windows 95, the response is "unknown drive".
I do have a disc with the samsung cd-rom drive driver on it and i installed it on c:, but it doesn't do any good, either.
pleeeeeeze, help me, all you smart computer-knowing people out there! :->

Hello.
What you need is the windows 95 setup floppy - it boots and loads a standard Cd-Rom driver. Id be happy to mail you a copy of its contents if you mail me.

Cheerz

G'day Cornelius, check your boot disc to see if it has a file named MSCDEX.exe on it, if not you can get this file almost anywhere, even from the machine you are on now and copy it to your C: [and put a copy on the boot disc too] and then reinstall your CD-rom drivers. It sounds to me that this is the case and your Cd-rom drivers are looking for something that is not there. If you are not sure of the commands to do this in Dos just type:

Dir/p at the A: prompt to see what is on the floppy

and then type:

copy mscdex.exe c:

Mscdex.exe is one of the most important files there is and is needed for your CD-Rom to work.

Hope I helped

If all else fails try this.
From the C:\ Type
C:\windows\command\mscdex /d:mscd000
then enter. Then try to access your cd rom.
I hope this will help.

Find someone with win98 and ask them to make you a boot disk that should get your cd rom working or if have the full version of 95 you can change the first boot device to cd rom thats if you want to mess around in your bios
