I have an older pentium 150 Dell Latitude laptop and docking station running Win95.Today I tried to boot the PC from the docking station and I would just hang on the cloud screen. After shutting off/on, I tried again many times with exact same situation - the only way I could get in is Safe Mode.
I then removed the laptop from the docking station and everything booted fine again (I shut down and rebooted many times without the docking station without a glitch. I again connected the laptop to the docking station and again it hung at the cloud screen?
I have never had this problem before. The only thing I can suspect is the latest softwarew (freeware) I downloaded the other day. It was a freeware firewall and port scanner. I did install it and only did a complete scan of all my "open ports". I did not activate it or anything.
After first getting this hung screen, I went into SafeMode and removed the software thinking it would help - it didn't
Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to correct this.
Thanks

A couple of ideas...
1) Are you able to "hot-dock" the laptop. I have a Compaq laptop, & this is OK, but don't try it unless you are sure that it is OK on your Dell. If hot-docking is OK, do it. Windows may pick up the dock as new hardware & reinstall it.
2) Try booting into safemode & removing the docking station in Device Manager. Then reboot & let Windows reinstall it.
3) If the above options fail, you could boot to DOS & at the C:\> prompt type:
scanreg /fix (ENTER)
Reboot & see if this helps. If not, boot into DOS again, only this time type:
scanreg /restore (ENTER)
Pick a registry backup with a date prior to when the problem started.
