I'm going nuts!! My computer keeps randomnly freezing!! I could be on or off line. The only trends I notice is that it freezes when trying to "do" something, i.e., forwarding or replying to e-mail, running software apps (Nortons, sometimes photoshop, games!) I've updated all my drivers and checked for conflicts in the device manager, I even re-loaded windows98. Here are my specs. PII 350, 64megs of ram, 6.4gigs, voodooII graphic accelerator w/diamond video card and sound card. Win98. I don't think the cpu is overheating either. Also, this just started a few weeks ago, which doesn't correspond with any new software ar anything. I've also run anti-virus and have defragged and scanned my hard drive (twice!!) Any Ideas???

Ctrl+Alt+Del and shut down one at a time to see if one is causing it. Leave Systray and Explorer running. Which Norton program is it? Could be scanning or checking when you launch a program causing the freezeups. It wants to protect you so much it will think every action is a problem then it creates another one.

Howdy, Well did ya build the system yourself? It sounds more like a hardware problem to me than software but ya never know. Does it give ya any type of error message? Do you have 95 which you could install and see if the system then will freeze? Just a way to rule out if its software or hardware related. This is a hard one to call without being there. check your drive properties through 'my computer' to see if they are fat32 and then check your version of Nortons to see if that specifically says it is win98 compatible, and check that your anti-virus software is.

get another system

When I am playing pogo video poker, the game freezes up on me. I have to get out of everything and then get in again. Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't. Could you please tell me what is wrong? Thank You!
