Subject: HELP!! CD Drive Missing!
Comment:

Help! My desktop computer has a CD Rom drive, and recognizes it during the startup as the Secondary Master. But once Windows starts, it's like there's no CdRom drive at all. How can I access this drive?

GET A CD DRIVER DISKETTE FROM WWW.WINFILES.COM, RESTART IN MSDOS MODE AND INSTALL THE DRIVER, THIS SHOULD FORCE THE CDROM TO APPEAR IN WINDOWS, ONE POSSIBILITY FOR HAVING NO CDROM IN WINDOWS WOULD BE A VIRUS , SO GET A VIRUS SCANNER AND CHECK THIS ALSO

You do not need real drivers for your cd in windows 95 in 98 either but in win 95 they can steal needed resources.
Try this
When you start up press f8 and go into safe mode
in safe mode right click "my computer" select properties then device manager
Open cd rom
you will most likly see a list of cd drivers
Delete all of them
Yes all of them
While there look in the other listings and delete other duplicated drivers (all of them)
when you reboot the windows will rerecognise the drivers it needs without the conflicting ones.
Your cd rom should appear
cd's also are a componant the breaks faster then most others.
It never hurts to do updated virus scans

if you have the cd driverin autoexec or config remove them. you only need them in you dosstart.bat
you can access them by way of sysedit on you run line

GOOD LUCK
