Hi,

I've recently rebuild a PC from my old stuff to build a MAME cabinet with and it was running fine for a few days. After installing program after program to get the damn thing setup and running just the way I liked for MAME, I decided to format and start with a clean harddrive.
I reinstalled win98, set everything up and now, whenever I restart windows, it's fine till I open up a folder and then it'll open "Help & Support" Once every second till I eventually run out of memory.

Any ideas guys?

I tried installing Win95 and it does the same????? Then I retried Win98 and still the same. I then tried moving the help & Support exe out of the windows folder and it just comes up with error windows about not been able to find the exe lol (Typical)

Any help would be appreciated cause I'm baffled.

I've never heard of a 'help & support.exe'. Could this be a virus?

Well, now I've moved the file(I think I've deleted it somewhere along the line of my frustration) The error box I'm getting up is sayingit cannot open "Windows.chm" which is a "HTML Help ActiveX Control" whatever that means lol

Gimme DOS anyday, at least you know where you stand with it. It doesn't so anything till you tell it too! lol

I've checked the msconfig and everything looks ok. There's one line in my config.sys that I'm not sure what it is.

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\setver.exe

It looks kinda familiar but unsure about it.

I'm trying to get hold of a version of DOS that supports FAT32 as it's only on my 366mhz spare machine. I'm running it as an emulator machine. Just thought it would be easier to set everything up from Windows and then run everything from DOS. But it seems I'll have to do everything in dos :(

Hey, thanks for the speedy replies you guys! Much appreciated ^-^

Hi all,

I checked out the help and support on my XP machine and apparently to shortcut to make the Help and support pop up was SHIFT + F10. So I took my keyboard apart, gave it a good clean, twisted it every which way I could (figured the board had a problem anyway so I didn't care much at this stage), put it back together and now the help & support doesn't pop up anymore YAY!

Cheers for all your help guys, I really appreciate it,

Regards,

Shinogi
