I have two operating sysytems installed, Windows XP and Windows 98. I want to get rid of Windows XP. Windows XP has some sort of error in it and I cant even start it up (even in safe mode). I do not want to fix XP just get rid of it. How would I Do this? I have heard something about formating my HD, but have no clue how to do this (Someone mentioned FORMAT and FDISK in DOS, but i have no clue how to do this.) Could Someone Help Me Out? Detailed Instructions Please!

Hello Tom,
The best way to go about this is to format your hard-disk and start afresh. But this means you losing all your data. Also, you'll need your Win 98 install CD for reinstalling everything.
First go to My Computer, right-click on A: and select Format; create a Boot Disk. Then restart the computer in DOS mode by hitting F8 when the computer is restarting, all the while keeping the boot diskette in the drive.
Type A:
Type format c:
It will clean up all the data/programs on your hard-disk. Then put in the Win 98 CD and restart the computer manually. Everything should be fine at the end of this...Good luck.

Here is a good site with detailed instructions on how to reformat, its a good idea to print them out before beginning:
http://tech.jmwebdesigns.com/software/expert/reformat.html
Its all in the preparation, make sure you have all the software that came with your system.

This is simple. Make bootable disk for win 98
Boot computer from the bootable floppy disk
and type in the command line sys C:
restart the computer and you will see that it goes directly to win98 and does not show you the menu. After you entered win 98 delete the winXP manualy. If winXP is set on NTFS partition format the partition using such Tools as Partition MAgic. That's all . you are free now of XP
