I installed a Seagate 8.4 gig hdd into a computer. When I boot the computer it detects the hdd (model type) and then stops. The hdd is a primary master. The computer is a 166 mhz. Any ideas?

Another thing you may wish to try is running a dynamic drive overlay (DDO). A disk should have come with your hard drive which contains a simple install program that will do all the work for you. Your machine or bios may have a problem with the LBA mode on the drive. If you run the DDO and still have the problem, go into your bios and set the hard drive to a standard 540 meg hard drive. Once the mahcine boots the DOO will take over and your computer will have no problem reading the 8 gigs.
