greetings. I posted about this puter a while back but still couldn't get it revived. this is where I am, this is an old comp that my girlfriend just uses for the internet. she tried printing with it a while back and got some kind of error message about the port. so we tried several things to work the bug out but still couldn't get the printer working. well she booted it up a few times after that and all of a sudden it boots to a screen that says something about a bad sector. ok so I try to get into safe mode with f8, it does go into the screen with the options...normal boot, safemode, command prompt ect. but no matter wich of those options I choose it does nothing, won't go into safe mode, or dos prompt, it just sits there and doesen't respond. she didn't have a boot disk so I could try that so I downloaded one from some site recomended here. I have not tried it yet but I figured I would try to get some advice in case it doesen't work. please give me some advice if possible, appreciated in advance

If it's more than 5 days, the previous post's suggestion will not work. If that's the case, I would suggest running windows setup.

you'll have to run scandisk from a startup floppy, and have it run a thorough scan, so scandisk can mark the sector bad, and make it unaccessable, and it will remap the drive to avoid the bad sector. if it happens to be sector zero, you'll need to install a new hard drive.
if after it marks it bad and more bad sectors start showing up, this means the hard drive is going bad, and needs to be replaced.

You can get a brand new 15 GB drive for $60.00 9probably even less0.
Don't pay to fool with drives that are starting to go.
