Today on my Win 98 machine I had an error while copying a file from one hard drive (D) to another hard drive (E). During it the screen froze, so I rebooted.

After this, the E drive was shown in Explorer
as a Removeable Drive, and couldn't be accessed.

My device manager shows GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE 47 as having failed. When I get more info on it, the device status says that the device is not working properly because a device it depends on, Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) has been dynamically disabled.

Any idea what i should do?

Paul.

Try removing your ide and floppy controllers via your system manager. Reboot - Windows will restore them. This "software driver reset" may take care of the situation.
