When I use comdlg32.ocx(VB5) in Win98 I get following message:
"License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in the design environment."
In Win95 I don't get that message.
Thanks for your help.

Hi!

This error means that COMDLG32.OCX and related files have not been properly registered in the Win98 regsitry. Try reinstalling VB UNDER WIN98. That should solve this problem.

I'm trying to use an FS98 add on so I can

downloaded from "Simviation" web site. After
unzipping, I click on the executable file
and get the error msg saying I need the
COMDLG32.OCX file. I'm baffled. Any help on this would be severely appreciated! Thanx!!

I use VB5 on NT Workstation(SP5) and
had exactly the same problem with comdlg32.ocx as the one other people in this forum had. I got the error window, saying that I had no license for it. However, after I downloaded VBC, the VB5 fix patch from Microsoft and ran it, all the problems were sorted out. I had to thank the person, who
told us about this patch at this forum.

Indeed there is a problem with comdlg32.ocx, comdlg32.oca and the comcat.dll file.
A new program can install a new version of comdlg32.ocx (6.00 instead of 5.00) in our case). In that event the oca is wrong I suppose and the registry contains references to the 6.0 version...
What I did was :
- reinstall the older comdlg32.ocx and comcat.dll
- get in the registry and erase every hint for 6.0 versions (Search comdlg32.ocx)

After that it worked again.

I don't like this way of working and I will surely check the vbc.exe solution !

http://support.microsoft.com/download/support/mslfiles/VBC.EXE

Unzipped it, and ran the file Vbcmpfix.exe AND rebooted (very important: You know windows...!). The messages stopped and VB5 is working just fine! Thank You Vito!

Tchow and hope it solves other people's problems...

I got the "VBC.EXE" patch but it didnt change this problem.

This sucks!

Somewhat later than most of the above messages, I had the same problem starting ANYTHING in VB6.0. I got the message "Cannot load comdlg32.ocx - file may be out of date" etc. The problem was solved quite simply by doing a partial re-install of VB 6.0 (i.e. the "replace missing files" option.) This re-installed the earlier version of comdlg32.ocx.

Now why it should have re-installed an older version over a newer version is another question - well-behaved installation programs aren't supposed to do that!

My worry is whether the same problem is likely to happen to an end-user using an VB exe file? Does anyone have any idea?
