Hi,
I'm trying to work on a friends computer. I have it all working fine except for on annoying thing. When we boot it up, it stops at the C:/windows prompt, and we have to type "win" to get it to go into windows. I know I need to add a command line to the config file or sopmething, but don't know what I nee to do! Help:)

I tried that (putting it as the last line in the autoexec) and it still stops and I have to type 'win'

If this computer is running Win 3.1, this would be correct, but in Windows 9x try this:
Boot with a bootdisk for the version of Windows that you have. At the A:\> prompt type:
SYS C (ENTER)
Remove the bootdisk & reboot. You should go straight into Windows.
Hope this helps.
Dave

what the hell are those guys talking about. in the root directory find msdos.sys and right click on it then go to properties and then uncheck read only. (if youdon't see it in your root directory let me know.) after you unchecked read only open the file up in notepad. under options you will see one called "bootgui=0" change that 0(zero) to a 1(one)then save the file and you will be good to go.

I had the same problem. I went where afa suggested and it already has the 1 there. I added "Win"( without the "s) in autoexe.bat and haven't had a problem since I did that about 3 months ago.

C:\Msdos.sys should have ~both~; the paths statement and the bootgui=1 statement;
ie;
[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C[Options]
BootGUI=1

if u are using window 95 or 98,
try this ,start, run, type sysedit
1. clear every lines in autoexec.bat
2. clear every lines in config.sys.
and save it
restart windows.
hope it help.

Or just rename them to config.txt and autoexec.txt.
Also make sure the c:\windows\win statement is ~before~ any "exit" statements in autoexec.bat.
What version of windows is this machine running?
This is from 98SE;
