Was given Windows 2000 Pro for my home PC. NOthing works. I hate it but don't know how to go back to Win2000. None of my backup ideas are working so I'd lose my files, right?

You will have to delete the windows folder and then install win98. You will lose all your installed programs. But you will still have all the other files on the drive.
To delete the windows folder, boot up from a win98 startup floppy and type:
deltree c:\windows
Reply appropriately when asked if you are sure.
Then install win98.

It is a big pain but it is worth it. I was having nightmares and 3 months ago I went back to 98. I have had 0 problems since then. The best move I ever made. Do it.

Dear Friend --
I'm still using Windows95 OSR 2.5, and love it. Win95 has no networking like Win98, but
I don't use home networking anyhow.

No one likes Windows 2000/NT the very first time, including me ... BUT

The Windows 2000/NT/XP (NTFS) file system is very STABLE and almost impossible to crack It's not bad once you get used to it.
Cheers !!!
