Howdy, Well it looks different every time and its a random type of test. You know if you pass/fail right away since its all done on a computer and I hope you have studied the new lame ass test since it was updated. But being A+ doesn't mean ya know how to fix a computer, I know many of boneheads that call themselves techs just because they are A+ personaly I think the test is a total lack of true computer knowledge.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.

The A+ test looks like most PROMETRIC tests and is in two parts. One is based upon computer hardware and one is based on DOS, Win For Wkgps and Win95.

The hardware section tests your knowledge of components, common IRQs, diagnostics to resolve problems and installation. The test banks I have seen are ok, but do not substitute for a good small computer systems class at the local JC and the Repairing and Upgrading PCs book published by QUE.

The second part tests DOS skills, so learn the internal and external dos commands and take the time to use the /? to see AND use the different switches for these commands. The printer section is HP inkjet specific and if you can find "HOW COMPUTERS WORK" ISBN # 1-56276-094-7 it will help you understand how different computer components interact and function. It is much better than the "Dummies" series and a lot let technical than the QUE book. The WinForWkgps and 95 section require some navigational and installation knowledge. Don't let this or any other test from PROMETRIC get you overly worried. If you miss it the first time, learn from the experience and take it again. Remember - this test is a gague used by employers to convince themselves you have enough skill to function in a IS environment. Your skills should exceed the A+ - With 14 years in the computer technical field my opinion is if you are good enough to hire, you can pass this test with little preparation. The certification can help you get in the door. It will not make you a technician. Yes I have an A+ certification - I took it so that my students would have another good reason to listen in class!

Success!
