Harddrive makes clicking noise

I have a Western Digital harddrive that makes a clicking noise and will not boot. The system fails to recognise the drive. Is there any way to fix this. Or is it possible to transfer the physical disk to another harddrive? Any ideas?

You could try looking at Western Digital's web site for a diagnostic utility that 'might' be able to get you some information about the drive's condition. If the disk is not spinning you're into major bucks to recover anything from the disk. The decision then is, how much is the data worth to you?

Hello, to answer your report, this is a very bad news to hear a HD making noise like that. There is many reason to explain that but the first one for sure is that the Boot (part of the hard drive which is essential for the computer to read the content has been destroyed, corrupted or damaged. If you are still under garantee, I will suggest to not waist your time and change your hard drive right away, if not, try to reformat this drive, and to reload it after... If reformat don't match there is lot of chance to believe your hard drive is dead.

Try a low level format. But realise that this will destroy aal data on the drive & it can not be recovered anymore.
