Hard drive slow to format

I have tried to format my 6GB hard drive and it seems to be taking an extremely long time--3 hrs for 18%--then it seemed to quit the rocess and freeze up or just stop. What is the problem?

Try running scandisk from dos with the Scandisk command. Also there are some cool diagnostic tools at windrivers.com you should check out.

You should try several different cleaning programs in your windows program any one of them will clean various bits and pieces of junk out of your PC that doesn't realy nead to be there. its just taking up space. Also use the defrage program. It will organize your programs, for over time your programs will get spread out all over your hard drive.

Try rm -r and re format.
If you do not specify the OS type or the machine it is REALLY hard to diagnose the problem.
I know this is a windows forum but you need to be a little more clear.

First of all are you sure your system can handle this size drive. Go into the CMOS and make sure the drive is being recognize as a 6 gig drive.
