Hard Drive Running Like Crazy Office X

I installed Office XP Pro on Windows 98SE. Since I have done that everything has slowed down and my hard drive is running all the time. I can shut down EVERYTHING and it still runs. If I am doing something it quits, but a couple of minutes after I stop it will start back up running like crazy. I have hit Ctrl/Alt/Delete and shut down everything except Explorer. I also shut down everything in the taskbar including Antivirus software, and it still does it. I left it running in DEFRAG overnight and when I came in this morning the hard drive was running like crazy, and defrag said 0% complete.
I know this has to do with Office XP, but I cant find anything running!

First, I would like to ask what kind of pc you have (speed, ram, ...)? It is recommended that you run xp on a pc with at least 300mhz. I would say may, since xp (both windows and office) requires lots of cpu power and resources. Also it is recommended that you have lots of ram installed (256mb or over would be fine).
I hope that helps.
Kevin.

Be sure you have space left on the HD. If you are, let's say, 98% full, that creates problems. Otherwise, RAM is also an issue. Insufficient RAM causes Windows to use the swap file a lot which is many times slower than accessing memory.
