Comment: ok i have two hard drives. a C and D. my C is the master while the D is the slave. eveytime i start up my comp it says "not ready to read C Drive" then it says abort, retry,fail. i tryied everything but nothing works. so i was thinking,just take out my C drive and just keep my D drive( c drive is old and it only holds 1.5 gig) so how would i do this? i had win 98 on c,

Reply: (edit)Just disconnect the bad drive. Let the Bios redetect the drives, so it knows that it's gone. The old D: drive will now be C:. Go ahead and install win98 on it.

Reply: (edit)You need to go into the BIOS and verify that the drives are being autodetected. Also you will have to set the drive to master if you disconnect the older drive.

Reply: (edit)Hi there! I work for Gateway Tech Support, and I have a suggestion. Have you tried switching the IDE cables to see if it's a bad cable, before running out and buying a new drive? Just a thought MJ
