Comment: I think that I am having a problem with my hard drive. Sometimes is will not boot up. It just says, "operating system not found". I use the bootup floppy and get it running again and then it runs fine for a week or so. Then all of a sudden it won't boot again. Does this sound like a hard drive problem or a controller problem? I have never had a hard drive to crash. Does it go down suddenly or over a period of time?

Reply: (edit)First off, run scandisk or even better, norton disk doctor. It'll check your boot record and partition tables which sound like they may be getting flaky. Flaky is of course a very technical computer term.

Reply: (edit)I agree! The odds are that the drive is flaky. Re-writing the MBR 'might' help. You could also try running 'sys c:' from a floppy.

Reply: (edit)2 options to try out.. 1) If possible, get any harddisk to test it out to see if it's the hd giving the intermittent problem 2) Reinstalled the OS (NO formatting ! !)
