Subject: Hard Drive not detected, no video, will not shut off!
Comment:

Three problems after I installed Windows 98SE. First off, when I turn the thing on it will not detect the primary IDE-0 and then asks me for a boot disk. BUT (and this is interesting) if I hit CRTL-ALT-DEL and reboot it finds the hard drive just fine! Problem #2: Sometimes when I turn it on I have NO video at all! I let it sit there for a bit and then reboot and the video is there. No idea.... Problem #3: When I get no video, the thing will not shut off! I hit the power button and it stays on. I have to actually manually pull the plug in order for the power to turn off! No idea, again! Problem #4: Every time I try to install a modem the whole system shuts down.

With these problems in mind, I am wondering if it is the Windows 98SE that is the problem or the motherboard. The modem problem seems like it is W98, but the no video and the fact that it will not turn off seems to be the motherboard! I dunno.

I have a FIC SD11 motherboard, an Athlon 650, and a WD 27.3GB HD.

Thank you to whoever answers! :)

Sounds like some corrupted modules (probably .dll's) per the install.
Do the basics first.
goto run, type:scandisk
then type:sfc
If/when that doesn't work, I'd fdisk/mbr at the dos prompt, then run scanreg & reboot.
Lastly, it's back to fdisk, formatting and
installing again.
hope this is of help

I had the same problem when I built my new computer as of 2/22/2000. but then I installed my mother board drivers!!!!
and I haven't had a problem since. infact my comp runs faster now with the drivers in.
Try this. Email me if you are successful.
