I just got a hard drive for my computer, it didn't come with a installation or configuration disk, and I can't find one to download online. The HD is a 10.2 GB Quantum Fireball lct 10. When I go to "My Computer" and click on the C:, windows 98 shows its stats as a 2 GB hard drive. Is there any way to fix it. Please email me if you can help at Nightbird4@aol.com. Thank you.

Hi there,
I have had the same thing happen to me. In the drive space properties and the dxdiag it says my hard drive is still 2.1 whereas in windows explorer when it shows the size of a file it says I have over 6.4gig left! Strange

Windows has a little issue with this. This is something that I have seen before and spoke to Microsoft about as well. It turns out that you should not check your drive from drive space but from My Computer and then right click on the C Drive and go to properties. What it says here is what you have or what Windows says that you have according to how you fdisk your drive. Remember some boards can only see up to a certain size drive. Windows will report the drive properly if you Partitioned it as a ten gig and formatted it as a ten gig. Ignore drive space in the Start Menu.

Actually since DOS does not lie like windows perhaps the best route would be to try typing in mem\classify from the C: prompt.

G'day Mark, when you partitioned your HD did you answer 'Y' whaen asked if you want Large Disc support, if not, as I suspect, you will only get a maximum of 2.1 gb per partition, that's if you then created extended and logical as well, as I suspect you did not do either.
If you answered 'Y' you should have the entire space by now but if not you will get several 2.1 gb partitions
And also your M/board may only support a max of 8.4 per IDE channel, depending on the board.
Basically you should start again using Fdisk for Win98
Footnote; Having several partitions is a lot safer than 1 big one, it gives you some safe areas on your drive to keep important stuff in case of a major crash that may force you to reformat C:, the other drives may never need to be formatted again, think about it.

I've the same problem every time I have my Window reinstalled,in my case I just leaves it alone, soon after you've used up all the
"said Gbs" your Window have falsely displayed,it will then automatically detectes the new capacity in your HDD & lets you access to it immediately.
