In my system control panel it use to identify
my hard drive correctly as a Maxtor 6L080L4. Now for some reason it identifies it as a GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE 47. I can't figure out what made it change. I think it might have happpen after I downloaded some Windows updates. Any ideas on why or how do I correct this? I have ran out of ideas.
Thanks for your help.

I have two hard drives, Maxtor and Western Digital...both are shown as 'generic' in device manager. Never noticed it before since I have not had any problems.

Thanks for the reply Madman. Mine use to show the correct model number. The CD ROM drives still show correct model numbers. Just wondering what made my hard drive turn to generic in device manager? Strange !!!!!
Any one else with any ideas?
