First replace the old failed drive with a new one. You will need to reinstall the operating system. Once this is done then connect your old drive to the secondary controller. You may have to change the jumper setting. If your drive has any life left in it you may be able to access it through explore. If your drive is too far gone and can not be accessed this way then the only way that you will be able to get your data is to send the drive to a company who specializes in data restoration. This is an expensive solution and even they may not be able to get all of your data.

Hi Christopher,

I agree with Matt. If it wont boot, a new HD will be needed (remember FDISK then Format) then try and slave up the faulty HD and explore your files. Just be aware that if it is awash with bad clusters there is a chance that while attempting to copy your work you may experience the odd lock up.

Also, when you have done all you can with your old HD, try a low level formatter*, it MAY restore it.

*Available freeware on net

I had a Quantum one and it stopped working a day before. I was surfing the net and there was a forum (but i don't remember the address) where about a 100 people had gave the same advise: You have to put it in the freezer and freeze it for at least a night. After that you have to put it back in the computer and it should work for another 20-30 minutes - enough for "soaking" it up...
Of course you should do that only if it is not spinning at all.
I myself haven't tried this out yet as I haven't bought a new hard disc yet.
Having nothing to loose I'll do that as soon as I get a new one.
After it stopped spinning i swapped it couple of times and it started working for about 10 minutes...
Good Luck!
