Hard Drive activity

I posted this a while back, but still haven't been able to resolve the problem. I have a P11400 with two seagate drives, one 4.2 and one 2.1, a PC partners(vtech) mobo, 64meg RAM and matroxg200 graphics. Main software is win98se, MSoffice97 (word, Excel) Publisher98, Mcafee Virusscan 4.02 and I have power management set to 'always on'. The trouble is after say an hour or so of use, the machine experiences frenetic hard drive activity which temporarily freezes up the mouse and this continues for around four or five minutes during which time it also tries to access the floppy drive. This floppy access has only started since I Reformatted and reinstalled everything when I upgraded from a celeron366 to present p11400. It is annoying when this happens as if I am downloading when this occurs I lose my connection. It doesn't do my temper much good also if I am editing images when this happens as my work gets buggered up. The swap file in windows98se is set to be managed by windows, but altering this to 2.5 times the size of the system memory doesn't do a blind thing. Could this be a Mcafee problem? I wonder......

No,Billw I have scheduler disabled. Does this thing run in dos too in the background? disk activity also occurs when running Norton speed disk, and norton disables virusscan for the duration of the defrag. this activity screwed up my defrag as well.

You should uninstall the McAfee's antivirus, frankly it sucks.Everyone is having problems with it.Ram leakage sounds like your problem particularily if you are in chat rooms alot.Download Rampage. It's freeware that will help you to free ram on command.Increasing that page file will problably only increase your problem. It seeking the floppy probably is a virus scan.
