Hard disk & CD rom detection

I recently replaced my motherboard. when I initially turned on the computer after the installation, it correctly detected the hard disk, CD rom, and CD recorder. Windows 98 detected new hardwares and tried to install the drivers for them, but it couldn't because CD rom driver was not installed, and could not get the drivers from Windows CD. I tried to install the driver from the diskette, but I coundn't because the new motherboard had a different type of keyboard connector that requires an adaptor. Other than the problems described, it seemed to work fine. So I turned off the computer. Next day I got the keyboard adaptor, ready to install CD rom driver. When I turned on the computer, it started the booting process. It showed the memory size, and detected keyboard and floppy disk. Then suddenly, it had a message "insert a bootable media in appropriate drive." The computer failed to detect any of my hard disk, CD rom, or CD recorder. I went into the bios setup, and it did not have any of the above listed. It is so perplexing because I did not touch the computer since I turned it off the night before! Can somebody help me with this problem? Thanks.

Howdy, Well make sure the CMOS battery is not loose and double check the motherboard manual to make sure the jumper is not set to reset or clear when the power is turned off. My system uses a Real Time Clock which stores the CMOS settings, if I set the jumper to clear, when I power down the system and restart it the CMOS will loose all its settings and not know what the hell is going on. Its rare that motherboards have this jumper in the reset/clear position but it does happen sometimes.

Laters,

Kevin The Tech Dude.
