Dear friends,
lately I have problems with Photo Shop and Excel, whenever I mark an area to copy, as soon as I hit the copy button it hangs up and I have to restart the computer to fix this, any ideas why this is happening ? consider that I have 64MB RAM and more than 70% of it is free.
Thanks in advance

I don't know what the particular problem is, but I would consider a memory upgrade because I thought PhotoShop 5 needed 40 MB (recommended) & PhotoShop 7 needs 128 MB. Plus if you are running any other Programs Plus Windows 98, you are just plain out of memory & when you Cut & Paste that takes some memory that apparently you do not have causing a crash. If these are not new programs try getting rid of some of the start-up items, run Norton's Win Dr., De-frag & run one program at a time.

You don’t have enough memory. I’ve found that Photoshop 5.0 works best with 256MB or more of RAM. If you wonder why, look at the “History” of any image that you’re processing. Each command stores that image in a clipboard-like file o that you can go back to that command immediately. If you’re doing high resolution image files (usually 20MB or greater) you can imagine how much RAM is needed.

I use PS6 with 192mb RAM without any problems. I used Photo Deluxe with 64mb RAM without any problems although it was a little slow on the very large files of 18mb and greater.
The 70% you reference I suspect is actually your system resources that has nothing to do with RAM.
Do you have ample hard drive space?
If you are not running out of hard drive space then I suspect your Swap file needs some adjusting.
I would recommend you take about an hour to read the Swapfile Optimization Guide so that you will understand what+whys and be able to adjust your PC to accomodate your needs.
