When your desktop appears, click 'control-alt-delete' this may indicate which program is not responding then post back

Is this sudden, or has it been acting up for a while now?

If this is something that has started int eh past day or two, then try booting to a DOS prompt (tap F6 when it says "Loading Windows", or use a boot disk)

When you get tothe C:/wondows> prompt, (Or whatever it says on your system, it doesn't really matter) type SCANREG /RESTORE and hit enter. Then choose a date from before these symptoms appeared.

Once it is finished, reboot ansd see if that helped at all.

Try disabling the startup programs in msconfig. This would help to some extend...
Also try putting up the below lines in the file config.sys:

Device=c:\windows\himem.sys
Device=c:\windows\emm386.exe 4096 RAM
DOS=high
BUFFERS=20,0
STACKS=0,0
DOS=UMB
LASTDRIVE=Z

This would help..... u to have a better startup....

Hi.
This has been happening ever since I installed 98se from a clean install.
when i push ctrl+alt+del at start up, the taskmanager (or whatever you call it) appears but there is nothing there.
i get the msgsrv32 not responding alot of the times.
i'm going to try each of your tips one by one and i will let you know.

Cyber:

What do you mean "try putting up the below lines?"

How do I go about that?
