w98/Viewsonic monitor/Tyan momboard w/vid. card inherent.
H. V Frequency over range and then black screen - hv to reboot. Happens mostly when online and a link opens a new window.
Have turned down 'input level' on monitor itself and it happens less often - still too often.
Have tried 'display properties' then graphics controller/adapter - but can't change anything there -
Have tried updating driver but that yielded that already using best available.
Bios/cmos (whatever) has graphics section in momboard book, but I can't decipher the 'Greek' there - nothing much makes sense to me and certainly nothing I recognize as applying to 'frequency' - can anyone give me a clue?
Seems to happen most often (but not exclusively) w/one companies' site when I hit a link that opens a new window - anything possible there or just coincidence? ?

This must not be a very common error or more people would have suggestions.

Shelley's idea would narrow the problem down quickly.

Two things have me wondering...
Why more on one web site than another.
And, how could Windows make you reboot if the error message was comming from the monitor.

Do you have your processor frequency overclocked, by any chance? Or did you make changes to AGP timing in the BIOS?

Anyway, here are some thoughts on the monitor/video card stuff.
If you don't have a monitor specification booklet, post the make and model number and maybe someone can find normal operating frequency info on the net.
Also, post the make and model number of the motherboard so we can maybe find newer drivers for the video card. (Maybe Windows is using a Standard video card driver that doesn't give the option of checking and setting monitor frequency.)
