Hi.

I'm using a second hand PC that I was given a few weeks ago. It's running on Windows 98, but the display setting can only go up to 16 colours. The programs and games I want to run need the color display settings to be a hell of a lot more than that.

I ran a search for the computer to find a better adapter/driver/whatever, but it said the best one was already being used - still only with the choice of either 2 colors or 16 colors.

Now, I'm pretty much computer illiterate when it comes to this tech stuff. I do not have the Windows 98 CD, because it was already installed on the PC when I brought it. How can I change the driver/adapter/whatever so the display will have more colors? More importantly, I need directions in layman's terms - specifics are just gonna confuse me.

If anyone can tell me what to download, where to download it from and exactly how to set it all up, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

to find the right drivers for your video card, some information about the video card is necessary.

if you can give some details about the Manufacturer, model, version, chipset, amount of memory, for the card, maybe someone can help.

just saying "i got a video card" is as helpful as someone telling you "I got a TV, can you tell me how to fix it"
any information you can give is helpful.

Watch the screen as you turn the computer on.
Most cards display some info from the card bios as the computer starts. you have to be quick and may need to start several times to read it.
dont turn it on and off real quick as this can cause damage, leave at least 10 secs between switch ons

hope this helps
