good data recovery software

could anyone give me a few suggestions as to good data recovery softwares that are available.due to unavailability of time and funding i guess,i would be unable to test the data recovery softwares that are available.so probably pick the one that would be suggested the most.

If you need other or more suggestions then please advise what the situation is where you need to recover data. Dead hard drive, deleted files in error or ???
would prefer to know the names of the ones that can recover from a dead hard drive as well as the ones that can recover from a hard drive whose partition has been deleted.
