Specs: Windows 98, ?
I'm looking for a version of GNU Bash, or Cygwin that is downloadable without the *.zip extension. Can anyone help me? I'm also pretty tired of the c:\ [drive-letter] in dos, does anyone know how to change it to a /, like in bash or Unix?

I have no idea what those OSes are. At least I assume they are OSes. That said, why would you post this in the Win95/89 forum?

Second question, what is wrong with .zip file extension?

I hadn't heard of them either. Seems to be linux-like shell:

For dos and windows the forward and back slashes have separate functions so I don't think it's possible to replace the backslash, which separates directories in a command path, with the forward slash, which distinguishes a command switch.

Also, what's the problem with zip files? You just need something like winzip to extract them. I can't imagine why that would be a problem.

Or why using \ is tiresome and using / isn't.
