I installed the "off road 2" demo
I have the s3 trio 3d card 4 mb
but was unable to run the game for an error
that stated "cannot find glide2x.dll"
Anybody help !!

The card and its driver likely does not support Open GL.

Glide2x.dll is part of the 3Dfx Voodoo 3D accelerator "Glide" API. If the program is looking for this then it is probably searching for the drivers for a 3Dfx Voodoo. You don't sound like you have one and the demo is probably 3Dfx only (a lot of demos are, although the full versions often support software 3D). If you do have a 3Dfx then you may need the latest drivers.

When you say S3Trio card 4MB do you mean a S3 ViRGE card? That's the chipset on the card but what brand is the actual card itself?

I came to correct my error, but I see I stand corrected. "Glide" is a different graphics lingo, than what I supposed. S3 does not support Glide or Open GL.

The three responces you have had so far where both correct but confused, you have a S3Trio 3D/2D card and that is the same card as mine.
Unfortunattely UltraHigh the N64 emulator requires a true 3dfx videocard and you will need to purchase one. I have tried looking for a 3dfx emulator but there are none.

if you go to download.com and download need for speed 2, it comes with glide 2x.dll and one other 3dfx .dll

I'm glad I'm not the only one plagued by this atrocity! You just can't hardly find Glide2x.dll. I have a new Aptiva with Voodoo and I get the same error message on some games and even my aircraft desighn programs. If anyone can help me find Glide2x.dll I'd appreciate it.

I just fixed the problem. There was a file - Opengl32.dll, for VooDoo video card in my game's directory. This file was therefore seeking out glide2x.dll, which I didn't have because I don't have VooDoo drivers installed. I removed the offending file and the problem was fixed. You should also watch out for incorrect GLU32.DLL file as well.
I hope that helps.

Of course this is only a solution to your problems if your graphics card
supports this 3D format, many don't. So to avoid disappointment check
your cards compatibility with the Glide format and how to enable it.
The last hope for humanity is the 3DFX Voodoo chipset, this will solve your probs with these DLLs.

i finally got the dll file and guess what! the emu not working! no error message, no nill! i doubleclick on ultra, the command screen comes up, but when i try to open a rom the pointer changes to an hourglass for a few seconds but nothing happens!

First of all, let's say that having GLIDE2X.DLL isn't any good if you don't own a Voodoo card. If you do, you'd better download the latest drivers at 3dfx.com

IDIOTS !!!
If a game asks for any glide???.dll it means it will ONLY run if you have a 3DFx card in your system, and configured properly. If not don't waste time looking for some .dll that will never work, 'cause you don't have the hardware.

and for the really dumb idiots, don't download complete games for one .dll which is just a few Kb, download any 3dfx-driver from www.3dfx.com if you're still persistant to continue.

You can test renaming opengl32.dll to something else like opengl32.bak. It worked for me.
