I am trying to get rid of the windows98 logon screen at startup. I tried to change the password at the CP and created a new blank password as it would do the job for Win95 but failed.

How can I get rid of that logon screen. It is very irritatig and I am the only person using the PC. Thanks, Simon JW Lum

Try running regedit and either importing this or just doing it manually. This is the reg I created for Windows95, but it should work for Win98 also.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network]
"DisablePwdCaching"=dword:00000001

Go to Find Files and search for *.pwl. You must delete all of these files. Restart your computer. I will ask you for a password the next time it restarts. Just leave the password area blank and press the enter key or ok to continue. The next time you restart windows it will not ask for a password.

How do I import your string precisely? I'm not familiar with regedit enough to figure it out. I see import after running regeidt, but then what? Thanks.

This ought to be something that we could access from Microsoft but as everyone knows ' they' are not user-friendly.I am tired of the log-on box and can't get rid of it and it doesn't sound like anyone has a ' sure' way of getting rid of it.As with the other 'tons' of microsoft crap I would like to dump...because it crashes and malfunctions and you can't get tech help.

Does anyone know how to disable the CANCEL button at the logon dialog box? Because when I click the CANCEL button, it goes to my desktop without entering my passord and username. I've seen some computers with windows 98 when click on the CANCEK button at logon dialog box, it will ask u to enter a password and username.

before that windows 98 default logon screen,
we can put our own screen

1> run regedit.com
2> goto mycomputer\hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\winlogon

3> create two string

LegalNoticeCaption "WARING"
LegalNoticeText "This machine is not for anonymous users"

4> reboot the machine

next boot this message will come every boots

Just go into "control panel" "networking" and set the "primary network logon" to "windows logon" and you won't see the logon screen at bootup.
