getting rid of jpeg icon preview

Hi, I think my computer is slowing up because it is trying to make a preview for the jpeg icons I have, which are big files. I tried to delete some of them and it won't let me because it says it is in use by something, but it isn't. I just want to get rid of the thing that makes the icon look like the file.

There are many programs that have this feature, including most Graphics programs, and viewing programs. Simply use task manager (ctrl,alt,del) to see what is running in the background, and use msconfig to remove it from startup.

Thumbnails? Open the folder, click view choose details and they will appear in a list instead of a small preview of the file.
If you want to keep thumbs but dont want 5000 of them trying to load at once.. seperate them in folders like Pets, Cars, buildings etc.

You can also go to 'View/As Web Page' and turn it off.

Just select 'Icons' from the View menu to get back to the 'classic' Win 95 style icons that represent the file type, ie .doc or .jpg.
