That is what is happening. I just get nicely up and running and I am disconnected. Sometimes I get the disconnect screen and am able to stop it and sometimes I don't get this screen ( or miss it). I have gone into Control Panel,Internet, Connection, Settings and disconnected the Auto disconnect after so many minutes and it works for awhile but every time I fire up the computer I have to repeat this procedure to stay connected. And sometimes I think it disconnects me even though I have done this. Any suggestions from someone who has had this problem?

Who is your ISP? What is their policy on the subject? Are you running their software? It could be a good idea to give your ISP a call and discuss this issue with them. But let's see first what your answers to these questions are...

Hello...
Try using *70 with the phone number.
It might work.

If not,the previous replies are worth looking into.

Try ZDNET.com they have software that helps keep you connected. Some ISP will disconnect you after some time but it shouldnt happen right away. Contact your ISP. In the mean time look for a program that REPINGS your ISP the program simulates activety there buy telling your ISP that your still usuing your connection Good Luck

1.Try disabling call waiting before connecting to internet - ask ur telco for the code

2. Add S10=200 S12=200 string to the modem initialization string. It works for bad telephone lines.
