I just replaced the CMOS battery in a Canon
Innovabook 490 CDT portable computer, after
about a 1 month delay. When I try to start the
computer, I get nothing on the screen, and
the computer beeps 5 times, and does nothing
else. Any suggestions on reviving the computer?

You can try seing if your motherboard has a jumper that resets bios. if it does, just place the jump on the other pair of prongs for like 10 seconds, then put it back where you had it. I don't know much about portable computers, but thats worth a shot.

Make sure it is the right battery. Hopefully, it is not defective.

Remove it.

Let the computer sit for a few minutes.

Put it back in.

This will usually restore the BIOS to default settings on most computers.

Post back if this doesn’t work.

If you do post back, please include the BIOS manufacturer if you know it.

Portable bios's are horrible, they're a pain in the a$$. Most likely you dont have a jumper and I am going through this problem now. Good luck.
