I used to have a computer that had this problem and it has been eating away at me how I could fix it. I installed a DOS game on my computer. Whenever I started the computer, it went right to the DOS game and wouldn't let me get on windows. I tried messing around in teh BIOS with no effect. Anybody have any idea?
NOTE: I don't have this computer anymore, I was just wondering how to fix it is this problem should arise again.

In the root of your C:\ drive, there is a file called autoexec.bat . Using the EDIT program, change the line the shows the name of the game "should be the bottom line" and put WIN in it's place. WIN is the program that starts Windows.
If that doesn't work, explain what is in your autoexec.bat file.

Another way is to just rename the config.sys and Autoexec.bat files on the C:\ drive to something like config.gam and autoexec.gam. Then reboot and there won't be any DOS configuration files preventing DOS 7.x from loading Windows, which is the default behavior unless something in the configuration files stops it. Well, unless the MSDOS.SYS file has been edited to stop the loading of Windows. I kinda doubt that some old DOS game is going to edit the MSDOS.SYS file.

Look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/138996
under "Starting a Program in MS-DOS Mode"
The problem is that config.wos and autoexec.wos were not renamed back to config.sys and autoexec.bat or they were deleted. To fix it you'd normally check to make sure the wos files are there and then manually rename them:
REN C:\CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.APP (and enter)
REN C:\CONFIG.WOS CONFIG.SYS (and enter)
REN C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.APP (and enter)
REN C:\AUTOEXEC.WOS AUTOEXEC.BAT (and enter)Or edit the existing config.sys to remove the dos=single line and remove c:\windows\win.com /wx from autoexec.bat. Autoexec.bat will probably have a line calling the game so you'd want to remove that too.
Or, as already mentioned, you can just delete those 2 files.

Okay, thanks! This question was just bothering me and now I know how to fix this problem if it happens again! Thanks again!
