What is wrong with you people?? Dont you know that Windows will crash and not work all the time. Get Linux or another flovor of Unix and work safetly and effectively. With UNIX your computer will never crash! Never get viruses! And never have any problems but the instillation. Have fun! :-)
Linux and UNIX are not the same thing. UNIX proper will NEVER run on a PC, it is a Mainframe OS. Linux is a seperate OS based on UNIX designed with PCs in mind. I have been working with Linux for about 2 years now and it is a very stable OS, although I do not think it is that much more stable than a properly maintained Windows install. Most Windows problems are caused by people screwing around with things they should leave alone or by installing beta drivers (there is a reason they are BETA) or in gereral doing things that they should not. Linux is a good OS, but it has a long way to go before it is ready to take Windows' place. In particular, application devolpment will have to increase dramatically. I understand there is a large network of people writing Apps for Linux, but there are not nearly as many apps available for Linux as there is for Windows. The installation process for Linux will have to improve also, there is no way that your average user is going to willingly go through the hassle of setting up Linux as it currently is.
