Generic Camera Driver (USB)

Has anyone come across a generic USB driver that lets a camera act as a memory card?

Google found lots of drivers, but they were all specific to camera manufacturers.

I am hoping to find a driver which provides an Explorer type interface so you can treat the camera memory as you would a drive.

You mean you want to copy data from the computer to the camera?

I don't have a multimedia reader with me when traveling and it would be useful to upload photos from a camera to the computer and put them on a USB stick or email them or...

It is not necessarily my camera I'm wanting to do it with, it could be somebody else's who has photos taken at a meeting or a conference or simply be great photos it would be nice to have a copy of.

There is a wide variety of memory cards used in cameras but every camera seems to use the same USB cable/connector.

These may (or may not) work. Make sure to download the appropriate files depending on your version of Win98 (FE/SE):

So I guess the answer to my question is No.

"every camera seems to use the same USB cable/connector." Not true.

Regardless, when you connect the camera to the computer via USB, it will be assigned a Drive Letter. Just use My Computer or Windows Explorer to browse the content of the camera to locate the photos and copy them to whatever media you wish.

T-R-A,

Unfortunately, nusb33e does not recognize my Canon.

Windows recognizes the camera, and the wizard goes looking for a driver. Since Canon does not provide suitable drivers, nothing...

Thanks for the suggestion though.

It has been true of all the ones I've looked at.

Your statement is true of XP, mostly true for W2K, and not true for W98SE which is why I directed my question to the W95/W98 Forum.

nusb has recognized every USB stick I've ever tried but it cannot handle my camera.
