I have purchased a Dell OptiPlex g1 at a local yard sale, and am unable to get to the Windows interface. When starting I recive the message:
ERROR LOADING GDI.EXE, Please reinstall Windows.
I have reason to belive this is my fonts folder causing this. However I do not have CD-ROM drivers for DOS, and the floppy disk does work. I am looking for a program to rebulid the fonts autmatically.

Floppy disk or floppy disk drive? If the drive works OK you can download a file to create a bootdisk with cdrom support from just about anywhere. Also, 98 OEM cds are bootable so if you had one of those you wouldn't need a bootdisk.
Since the laptop is new to you I'd think you'd be better off formatting the drive and installing a fresh 98 than trying to fix whatever is wrong with it. If you don't have a 98 cd they should be pretty cheap on ebay.

It's quite likely that the previous owner ripped out all or most of the files before dumping it. They often do this.

"ERROR LOADING GDI.exe"
That sure doesn't look like a font problem to me. I agree that you will have to reinstall windows.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Or you can try just replacing a clean GDI.exe file from DOS but there are probably more problems with it than that.
Actually, it's quite the contrary for me, I have bought many used systems and they are in about 90% perfect working order. I never need to reformat them.
Faris,

Err Msg: Error Loading GDI.exe. You Must Reinstall Windows(146904)
...and I'm looking for someone to do everything for me. Not going to happen though, is it. Even somethings, would be nice once and a while ;-)~ Good Luck twell - Tyler And ham, looks can, and might be deceiving... ;-)
