GDI. exe error ..on bootup win98

Hello people, I need help with a bootup problem. My friends computer will not bootup beyond an error box GDI.exe ??? Any help would be grealty appreciated :) operating system is Windows 98. Thank you in advance for any advice offered. Sincerely, John

have youu tried using msconfig and removing it from the startup

gdi.exe is a core windows 9x file you may need to reinstall windows this file is responsible for drawing screens on your monitor
