The only win 98 cd I have is a gateway cd. The problem is, it only installs on a gateway bios. I'd like to burn this cd, but I can't figure out how to tweak the setup files to get it to run on any machine. I checked with a hex editor, and the files Oemsetup.exe, and oemsetup.bin both had references to gateway within themselves, so I obtained two new copies of those off of IRC, but that didn't help. Has anyone tried this before? Does anyone know which files have to be changed?

It's not a recovery disk. If you put a newly formated HD in a gateway machine, then it will install 98 se, there is also a file in the win98 folder called biosid.exe. I removed it from the folder, but it still says "This cd is only for use on a Gateway computer." There has to be some file I can change that will trick setup into thinking all machines are gateways.

If you replace the MINI.cab, PRECOPY1.CAB, PRECOPY2.CAB, and dossetup.bin with the ones from a real windows 98 SE cd, it should work, im doing it righ now, ive been working on it for a week or so, and i need those files, this isnt a promise but i think it will work, if not i will rewrite biosid.exe, and oemsetup.exe to make the setup think any cmputer is a gateway :)
