Hi,

While i am playing a game, all of sudden i get thrown out back to windows, no errors are given. I changed my hardware acceleration level to standard (from full), but it still didnt help, and if i change it to basic acceleration i dont have enough to play these games. Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks.

Hi fed1999.

Do you have the latest ATI Rage Pro 128 drivers for Win98?

Also some games require a current version of Direct X.

Run msconfig and turn off any programs running in background memory that you don't need.

When you bootup, many programs startup automatically that take up system memory which leaves less for your games or other programs. Some of these programs may be causing a conflict with your games.

First get a list of what programs load in memory so you know what they do and can then decide what is safe to turn off.

http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

( Click the letter at the top of each section to see the definitions of what the programs do )

You should print the list to make it easier. Be prepared for 50 or more pages.

Then with the list in hand -

Start

Run - type the word - msconfig

Startup

You will see a list of all the programs in operation.

Decide which ones you can live without ( you can always recheck the box and activate them again if you need them ).

Uncheck the box next to each one you want turned off.

Click OK and reboot the computer.

Leave virus programs on as well as anything else you decide you need based on the list you printed out.

By turning off unneeded background programs you will free up memory.

Take care,

Linda
