Hello again FZWG,
Thank you for that detailed report on getting rid of netsetter. There are a few puzzling points on the list, that I could not proceed with, possibly you can clarify them, and could be my chance to use the computer again for the net.
The first point, running through this line,
start>explore>view>folder options>view tab>advanced settings>files and folders>hidden files>>>show all files(here is where I lose the trail)\system to change to the c:\\system directory, where represents the directory where windows is installed. (for w98) type nscheck/uninstall. --System does not change to C drive and the system directory, and typing in nscheck/uninstall does nothing. Could you walk me through this procedure.

The other point, Sabre Tigger said he cleared his machine with this command you gave him, (for w98) "%WinDir%\SYSTEM\NSCheck.exe"/uninstall. You mention opening up a command window, I rebooted to dos and iconed to dos, the line was rejected. How would I go about opening a command window where the computer will accept this command?

I hope you can get back to me on these two points, as Sabre Tigger said he got rid of
netsetter with the second option you gave him.

I appreciate your time and effort getting rid of this virus, I know others will benifit from the information you have given ST and me,
thanking you for all of us,
charlie

hi,

Nscheck.exe is a hidden uninstall file
for netsetter that is locate in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.

By going thru the steps,
right click on START->Explore...->show all files.
You basically make all files "unhidden"
in windows. Thus, since all files r unhidden, u should be able to see "nscheck.exe" in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder.

The next thing u need to do is open MS-DOS prompt which supposedly give u
c:\windows. If so, type "cd system" (without ") to get u to c:\windows\system Then type "nscheck /uninstall".
(without ").

If nothing happens, like u said earlier on, then u need to find out if "nscheck.exe"
existed in ur system.

The second point is the same thing as ur first point except that it is perform
under
click start->RUN
and not under dos.

Thank you Skycompc,
This piece of garbage has knocked out my use of the computer for 2 weeks. FZWG has given me a lot of help ridding most of this virus-like program from my machine. BlueFront also pointed out it could be (and was) hidden in the temp files, which kept reloading in my internet options area with its web address. I hope your input can zap this program from my comp. Thanking you in advance,
charlie
