Comment: My old machine at work crashed-had to do a a complete reformat and re-load. It's up and running, and running through a server to get outside and it all works but when I try to view my web ftp portal, I get nothing but web page unavailable. I know about enabling passive firewall in IE 6 but that option isn't on my advanced list. Computer had IE5 and I loaded the MS SP1 with 6 in it(supposedly) but I have no option for passive firewall. Any help. Mike.

Reply: (edit)This is nothing more than a wild hunch. Go to IE/Tools/Advanced button. Under "Browsing" heading ensure there is a tick in "Enable folder view for FTP sites". This isn't set by default. I don't really know what I'm talking about but there's nothing lost by checking the above setting while you are waiting for further advice. DerekW

Reply: (edit)When I do that, the page comes up as "unavailable". If I uncheck that, the ftp log in comes up BUT won't SHOW the file on the FTP portal. ????? It just seems funny that the "allow passive firewall" option isn't in the drop dow under security.

Reply: (edit)Found the problem(apparently)-it's a certificate issue. Norton re-set the controls when it updated. It's stll funny that the original version of IE6 had a specific allowance for passive firewall and this new version doesn't. Oh well, thanks for the try derek. Mike

Reply: (edit)Now what's really funny is that when I access the FTP portal on the machine at work, the antivirus protection that is Norton say "have intercepted a threat-worm-trojan horse" and when I access the same ftp[ portal from home with Mcaffee current virus, it does nothing. It was some find of IE EXPLOR .EXE thing that it was picking up at work. Have to contact Norton about that one. Mike.

Reply: (edit)I'm a bit confused but thx for popping back and good luck with Norton. Maybe Norton has found something McAfee missed. Just for info (in case it's relevant): explorer.exe is a valid file (Windows Explorer). iexplore.exe is a valid file (Internet Explorer). iexplorer.exe is a nasty. DerekW
