Comment:

I have been having problems with my video card for quite some time now. I have a Compaq 5360 with an AMD K6-2 at 450 MHz and a SiS 530 video card with 4 Mb of shared memory.
Whenever I try to view any Windows Media Player or QuickTime video, my
computer hangs up with a distorted screen. This happens occasionally with
RealPlayer videos too. I have tried everything from reinstalling the video drivers to
reinstalling Windows. But nothing has helped. This problem is
really getting on my nerves now, so I would appreciate any fix to this
problem. Also, along with this, I am also having problems with 3D
acceleration. Any game that uses 3D acceleration, refuses to run in that
mode and only runs in Software renderer mode making the graphics look really
awful and giving me jerky motion in all those games. Please help.
Thanks

The problem with your video is... well your video card :).

The easiest and cheapest way out is to go out and buy a new video card. I recommend a Voodoo3 2000 PCI. They can be easily found at your local store for about 80-90 bucks and even cheaper if you look around on the net. No software program will get you out of this problem.

Remember this: Never, ever buy a system with integrated video. Or for that matter integrated sound. Your paying extra for something that just does not get the job done.

If you absolutlu have to, buy your next system without a video card at all! Then buy the card of your choice separatly.

1.Have you ran the basic's?scandisk,scanreg,
& sys file check?
2. Try looking at your bootlog.txt file. It's on the root dir, C:\open it and put a couple of characters, your choice, asterisks whatever. These are for reference so that you'll know if the file has been updated.Close & save the edit.
Then restart the comp & enter the startup menu.Hold the ctrl key down then F8. Choose
the bootlog.txt option. When in windows open the file & do a find for the word failed.Save them for reference, & let us know how it turned out.

LoopO,

Here is what I got when I did what you asked:
[0016F0B3] LoadFailed = C:\ESSOLO.SYS
[00170C4F] LoadFailed = ndis2sup.vxd
[00170D3C] DEVICEINITFAILED = MTRR
[00170E3E] INITCOMPLETEFAILED = SIS530V
[00170E42] INITCOMPLETEFAILED = SDVXD

Quite a few and seem to be associated with the video driver. Does this tell you anything? Hope you can help me.
Thanks

I have the following two error's myself, which I have just started to research,& I don't have any problems I'm aware of because of it, so will set those aside for now.
00170E42] INITCOMPLETEFAILED = SDVXD[00170C4F] LoadFailed = ndis2sup.vxd

It appears that an audio file & the video
driver/s didn't load.
Goto my computer,rt clk & then clk the properties. Click on the device manager tab, the click the + next to the display adapters icon, & the sis 530 should be shown. Highlight it & click the properties button @ the lower left. Read the general tab, then click the driver tab, and next the driver details button. What driver files are listed?
Last look at the resources tab to see if there are any conflicts.
What problems do you see?

Hi LoopO,

Hope you are still following up on this message. The driver files listed are:
SIS 530V.drv
(Nested within the above:)Sis 530V.vxd
(Nested within the above:)vmm32.vxd(vdd.vxd)

The resources tab shows no conflicts.
I have noticed that in the DirectX Diagnostics, two files esfm.drv and essmpu.drv are listed as not certified by microsoft. Could this be the problem?

That may clear up your problem with viewing data from Media Player and Quicktime. But, your hardware acceleration problem is... a hardware problem. Period.... with only 4meg of ram, even if you video card did run those hardware based games they WILL be choppy.

Howdy,
These are audio files, and not related to your problem. Note: all of my Sound Blaster audio files are uncertified, as well my 3dfxV2 (8mb) video, & everything is fine.
More to follow after lunch, but will quickly
say that them 4mb card should not be a problem when using Media player or Quick time, and it certainly shouldn't hang.

I have all the above problems, with esfm.drv and essmpu.drv listed as uncertified. However my problems seem to have started after I updated DirectX to version 7.0a. Can I do anything about this problem? PS My Combat FS used to work fine 3 days ago until I updated the DirectX and the following macxw4.drv and ES1371.vxd. Can you help?
