ihave just got a new system and every time i try to install my optic pro 9630p colour flatbed scanner it freezes out my keyboard and mouse

Try to reconfigure the paralel port to LPT2 Probably some kind of conflict you've got.

Just last night I had the same symptoms as your system but it dealt with the operation of a quickcam. I'm not exactly sure why, for there were no apparent conflicts, but when I switched over from a PS/2 mouse to a serial mouse, it didn't lock up. This may not fix your problem at all, but if you have spare time, it's worth a shot. Even if it fails, you're not out anything.
