What site did you download the firewall and identity theft software from? And how much space did you have on C:/ before you downloaded the software? Your computer may not have had enough space on C:/ to fit the software in and as a result, the computer froze up. Don't stress out, though. Just get back to me on those questions and I'll see if I can help you out. :)

You can download 'identity theft'? Wow.

Hard to say what happened - and maybe you mean 'wallpaper' rather than 'screensaver'? (generally different things) - are the CD/DVD drives listed in Device Manager?

One thing to try would be to restart in DOS (from the F8 startup menu) and see if rolling back the registry helps - enter:

scanreg /restore

Firewall and identity theft downloaded from
McAfee.

Volet9: I ran scandisk, it came back with 1,876,175 clusters, with 2,843 free.

Jboy: scanreg/restore does not work.

Steppenwolf: I don't understand your question?

Thanks, for the help.

You say scanreg /restore "does not work". Do you mean it didn't fix problem or that scanreg /restore failed to function in some way?

I assume steppenwolf1 meant:
Control Panel/System/Device Manager. If so, it is quicker to right click My Computer/Properties then open Device Manager tab. Odd though because Device Manager had already been mentioned.

Sure - saying something "does not work" really 'does not help' - details can provide insight

Yes, I'd asked if the devices are present in Device Manager, and, if so, any problems reported for them there?

Anyways - are you able to start Windows normally, or are you by chance in Safe Mode?

Thanks, to all. I tried scanreg again and it worked. I was able to boot up but when I
shut cp down, it reboots. I can shutit down by using off and on switch.

If you are still getting shut-down problems you could try this (download and other info):

Sounds like an improvement at least.

Thanks,
What does this mean? When I boot up before the icons come on, a window pop up stating
C:\ windows \system\vxdmgr32.exe
file 'dLLreg.exe can not load or run.
Remove file in win.INI file.

Where do I find Win.InI file?

If I check ok, it will give me the icons

Again, thanks to you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dllexe.reg is a virus. This website has a removal tool which might be better to try before modifying system.ini

If your looking for a good anti-virus and you don't currently have any other anti-virus software on your PC, I would suggest that you download AVG Free Edition from

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Just scroll down to about the bottom of the page and click on the hyperlink labelled avg71free_394a763.exe

This will automatically start the download. :)

I hope I could help!
